My brother recently has a new craze. Squash! And he’s trying hard to get me into the game. I was game since we desperately needed some physical exercise now that we were growing up (old). He got real expensive squash racquets and we got into our never used gym wears and landed in the court. After a small briefing about the rules that he googled on the net, he tosses the ball and swings hard. The ball thuds on the wall in front and is coming back at me. I’m all pumped up now, more than ever, waiting for that tiny little ball to bounce and I’ve got into position, racquet outstretched, wound up as far as possible to get as much power into the shot. The ball bounces but wait a minute? Did that just bounce or did it fall and drop dead like a bird? I desperately lunged forward to get to the ball but it did not bloody come up after hitting the ground. It jerked a little like when you give an electric shock to a patient who’s gonna die but that’s it. All the energy spent in winding myself up was wasted. I pick up the ball and examine it.
“I hate you” I murmured to the ball with a slight twist of my lips, similar to the lip-twisting done by Madhubala when she used to say to Devanand Jao, mein tumse baat nahin karti…
But it got me thinking – What’s a ball that doesn’t bounce? Aren’t all balls supposed to bounce? And then something else struck me – The awakening style – Why is it always about balls? Hitting balls with racquets or bats, kicking them, throwing them over the net… why are all games about balls? Except for badminton of course, where you have the shuttlecock being hit. Wow, I really think these games were invented by a disgruntled female. The male anatomy takes a lot of hits, not to forget the butt also gets laughed upon – remember “the butt of all jokes”.
But naughty connotations apart, seriously, what is a ball that doesn’t bounce?
And more importantly – Why are all games about thrashing, kicking or hitting balls?
Enlightenment please somebody…
Food for thought indeed!!Keep playing, and love the car!!
what’s a ball that doesn’t bounce?
Well, that’s the ball which has been in out for a very long time in dreadful weather conditions. To make a ball bounce, caress it. You know what I mean?
And for it being discovered by disgruntled female, well could be a displeased male too, isn’t it? Haha, you know what I mean?
hahaha…nice bit of humour 🙂
I’m commneting from work, so I dare not run a research on the origin of the usage of the word “balls” in reference to the male anatomy (although I’d love to drive the IT admins crazy thinking that I’m crazy, but that’s a different story)
But yeah, anyway… perhaps the origin of hitting balls as a sport was in existence much earlier before the word was used for body parts 😉
I am not able to figure it out why all games are abt thrashing,kicking,hitting etc….
Jao main iska answer nahi deti 😛
This was funny funny…par I dunno…itna dimaag nahi hai sochne ke liye :p
I really think these games were invented by a disgruntled female.”
I think you might just be right… 😛
Thoda soch vichaar ke baad, I’l be back here if I actually find my pea-sized brain…ELSE will just drop in a “HI”
😛
no comments !
@GM: Thanks, I love the car too!!
@Oxy: lol… I knew it you would definitely have some vulgar connotations to add.
@IJD: Try Squash. When the ball doesn’t bounce, try finding that funny 😐
@Terra: he he, they’d be so engrossed in researching you then… 😛
Thats why I think maybe it was a conspiracy by some disgruntled female and she tricked boys into playing with “balls” he he
@Varunavi: Yeah, actually I never thought about that in the first place…
@Smriti: So should I break into a shaking neck song now? something like “Rootho na humse….” he he…
Yeah, let me know if you figure it out 😛
@Dhiren:
Hmmm..
Maybe the cavemen used round fruits and balls of meat to be hurled at cavewomen and at men living in other caves. That must have been the beginning of all ball games.
I guess it was a male who first drew parallels between balls of the sporting kind and ahem. Women are more likely to call them family jewels if they are neat enough. *grin*
BTW, congrats for your newest acquisition. What car is it?
wowwwwww! sexyyyyyy car!
Congooo 🙂
and how is Luck By Chance? Awaiting review 🙂
I’ll let u know once I start playing squash..lolz..
aaah…umm…because cubes are not very hitable?
Thats cos ppl always wanna beat someone up! 🙂
Keshi.
Because my dear, balls deserve to be thrashed and kicked. Their owners ask for it!
🙂
Smart post.
Cheers.
S.
@Julia: lol… family jewels if they are neat… he he. But what was that “sigh” for?
It’s a Dodge Charger.
@Swat: Thanku thanku. Btw, I liked Luck By Chance but didn’t write a review for it. But you can check Oxy’s review (He’s on my blogroll by the name of Blessed Curse) and my comments on his post there… But beware, his review contains spoilers 🙂
@HDWK: uhh.. err… Sahi Jawab?
@Keshi: Now, I never want to beat anyone, (But i’d love to hit on you) he he…
@Saks: Ouch! That hurt… 😛
I’m not even going to venture a comment on this subject with the exception for tht one line “I hate you” I murmured to the ball with a slight twist of my lips, similar to the lip-twisting done by Madhubala when she used to say to Devanand Jao, mein tumse baat nahin karti…”
That was ROFL stuff:-D
And the car looks great…Congrats!!!!
It wasn’t a sigh. I was thinking about the ‘what kind of ball doesn’t bounce’ bit.
Some balls bounce higher than others even when thrown at the same speed. The difference is in the materials that they are made up of. The more the energy stored in the material, the higher the ball will bounce.
I don’t know what’s with the ball being warm, though. Maybe with an increase in temperature the amount of energy in the ball increases.
What’d you do with a ball otherwise?
Pick it and keep it. And then what? 🙂
I think these games were invented to relieve your anger. That’d spare the hapless humans. Thats why the kicking and throwing.
hahaha!
ah well! no comments on the balls bit *grin*
“aren’t all balls supposed to bounce” LMAO..
and dodge!! wow, congratulations man!

@Reflections: Thank you, for the No Comment and Car 🙂
@Julia: Thats some physics about energy and heat girl. Way to go…
@Shilpa: Yah, I mean what do you do with a ball if not hit/thrash/throw??? Million dollar question.
@ISH: *grin* Thanks
@Keshi: lol… What’s a car that you can’t drive? he he
